Shannon Solomon

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

I love to work with individuals, couples, and families who are struggling with feeling disconnected and dysfunctional in their lives. I like to create order from chaos within the self and the family unit. I help facilitate change by pouring unconditional love, striving to understand everyone’s story and leaning on their strengths to move them into what God has in store for their future.

I have always felt a calling to help people, even at a young age. I was studying Animal Science with an equine emphasis at UW-River Falls when I joined the Army my junior year, where I met my husband. After we were married he was stationed in Virginia, so I moved from Minnesota to start our life as a family together.

I went back to school in 2020 to get my Masters in Counseling from Liberty University, then earned my Equine Assisted Therapy certification from EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association). With first hand experience in how therapeutic and transforming horses can be, I was blessed to be able to do my residency at a wonderful facility that allowed me to practice equine therapy.

In 2024, while I was 8 months pregnant with my third child, I took a leap of faith and moved my family and horses back to my hometown in Minnesota to start my own private practice and equine therapy site.

Equine Specialist

During my childhood, I spent numerous summers at my grandparents’ farm, where I formed a close bond with horses. They offered me a sense of acceptance during times when I frequently felt isolated or different from others, often perceiving myself as an outsider.

As I matured, I built connections with peers in college, married, and had two children. In 2002, I bought Daisy, my first horse, and that same year acquired Davenport Stables, where I started a training and lesson program focused on rehabilitating horses and fostering deep bonds between owners and horses.

My journey has evolved into exploring the therapeutic relationship between horses and people, recognizing mutual benefits. Now, partnering with Shannon, I’m excited to combine our skills to support healing and mental health through equine-assisted counseling.

A brown horse with a white forehead spot named Bella sticks her tongue out from a stable window.

Bella

Hello, my family calls me “Bella bellaaaaa or Bell Bell” for short. I have a spicy personality and care deeply about helping those who hurt inside. I love to have a challenge or job to do and take it very seriously even if I have my own opinions about it. I also have a passion for escaping and learning how to maneuver things open as well as eating. I am very confident that I am good at those things!

A chestnut horse with a white facial blaze named Luna stands behind a metal gate.

Luna

Hello! I am Luna, I am very sensitive and social with humans. I love to be close (which sometimes is not welcomed; I admit at times I can be a bit of a space invader), so I am still learning how to have good boundaries with humans and with horses. I love to run, kick up my heals, and play in the pasture. My spirit is spicy and youthful. I am very athletic and when I grow up, I will be full of strength, knowledge, compassion, and loyalty to my people.

A chestnut-brown miniature horse with a light mane named Bugsby stands beside an outdoor fence.

Bugsby

Hi, my family calls me “Bugs.” I am a small but wise pony. I love to eat apples, carrots, pretty anything given to me except dewormer (YUCK!) My favorite thing to do during the day is nap in the sun next to my best friends (which I have a lot of them). I love helping humans heal from things that hurt them, and have been doing that for many, many years! Though I am small I have a very large heart.

A brown horse with a light mane named Buzz lays in the dirt in the sun.

Red Rose Buzz

Howdy! My name is Buzz—don’t worry too much about the Red Rose part. I’m not quite sure where that came from either, though I suppose it has something to do with being a registered Morgan. I just go by Buzz, because that describes me best; I have a buzzing energy, full of fun and adventure… as long as there isn’t a hula hoop involved. I don’t know what it is about those things, but they give me the creeps. Why do they even exist?

I’m slightly younger than Sassy, which means I’m really the barn baby—and I’m also the only gelding Cheryl owns. I’ve known Cheryl most of my life; she started me under saddle when I was young and quickly fell in love with me. She says the day I became hers was one of the best days of her life. I do love Sassy, though she can be a bossy older sister!

I know everyone loves me. All the geldings in my herd are my best friends. I’m the buddy you’ve always wanted—the one you can come to when you need to talk, and who’s always up for a good time. Whether it’s sharing a snack in the arena or heading out on a trail ride through
the forest, I’m in.

I love people almost as much as I love my herd, and anytime I get to hang out with humans is a bonus in my book.

A dark brown horse with a white nose named Nora peeps her head over a trailer.

Nora's Painted Dream

As my name suggests, I am a purebred Paint horse—though, alas, I wear no splashes of white.

My name is Nora, and I have been part of Davenport Stables for the past seventeen years. Teaching is my passion; I’ve spent most of my life as a trusted lesson horse and as Cheryl’s steady partner and friend.

I raised my filly, Sassy, right here, and I love having her beside me in the herd. Along with Daisy, I serve as a herd leader—but I let her do most of the running around. I prefer to observe from the sidelines, living by my motto: work smarter, not harder.

I’m gentle with the humans in my life and enjoy spending time with them—especially if they come bearing treats, offer a good massage, or are willing to do any type of healing touch on me. I have a nurturing spirit, yet I ask my students to be present and connected, for I answer each request in the same spirit in which it is given.

A horse named Daisy May with a dark brown coat and white patches.

Daisy May

I’m Daisy May, the original OG of Davenport Stables. I arrived here at just two years old
and have proudly called this place home for the past 24 years. Speed has always been my thing—I love to run, and under saddle I’ve always had that need for speed.

Barrel racing and pole weaving are my favorite events, though I’ve enjoyed jumping too. Since retiring from competition, I’ve stepped into my most important role yet: matriarch of the mare herd. I’m a natural leader—great at solving problems, keeping the peace, and making sure everyone knows the rules.

Do not let the word senior fool you. I’m still playful, quick on my feet, and fully convinced I do not need the senior diet I’ve been put on. I mean, really—I’ve still got it.

My favorite things to do with humans include being groomed in the sunshine, the occasional bareback ride, and every now and then being sent out into the arena to run a few patterns… just to remind everyone who I am.

A cream-colored horse named Sassy wears a red halter and a calm expression.

Sassy

Well, hello there! My name is Sassy. I’m Nora’s daughter and the barn baby. I’m the golden retriever of the mare herd—everyone loves me, and I never doubt it for a moment.

I’m confident and always eager to try new things. I’ve been on many adventures, including a memorable trip to Colorado where I explored the foothills and attended a horsemanship clinic. I especially enjoy adventures like trail riding and cow sorting.

I approach life with wide-eyed anticipation and very little worry, knowing my mama is always nearby to take care of me—and that my surrogate mother, Cheryl, travels with me to all the new places. I enjoy just about anything involving humans, but my very favorite thing is a good butt scratch. Do not be surprised if you find me backing up to you for one someday!
